VIA to provide marketing communications for global scientific organization
Portland, Maine, January 23, 2007 – VIA announced today that it had been selected by the New York Academy of Sciences (the Academy) as their agency of record. The selection follows a competitive review. The scope of work is to include marketing communications, public relations, strategy, and interactive. The account will be serviced out of VIA’s Portland and New York City offices.
The Academy is unique among professional organizations in that it is not only a notable and enduring cultural institution in New York City–with new initiatives designed to help the city school system and enhance the city’s economic competitiveness–but also one of the most significant organizations in the international scientific community.
“We are pleased to have VIA join us as a partner in promoting our communications among the foremost scientists in the world,” stated Ellis Rubenstein, President, New York Academy of Sciences and Academy member. “Their understanding of our mission and goals moving forward made them the clear choice to serve as our agency of record.”
The Academy recently moved from its historic mansion on the Upper East Side to be the inaugural tenants at the newly opened 7 World Trade Center. Since its early days the Academy has attracted prominent members, including U.S. Presidents Jefferson and Monroe, Charles Darwin, Margaret Mead, and Albert Einstein. Independent and non-profit, the Academy currently numbers over 24,000 members in more than 140 countries.
“We are proud to be affiliated with this prestigious, world-renowned organization,” said John Coleman, VIA’s CEO and founder. “VIA welcomes the challenge of partnering to promote the work of this historic institution whose membership is comprised of some of the greatest minds in the world including many Nobel laureates.”
About the Academy
The third oldest scientific society in the United States, the Academy was founded on January 29, 1817 at a “meeting of a number of gentlemen favorable to the cultivation of Natural Science.” The Academy’s first meeting was held at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in lower Manhattan. The Academy’s mission is “to advance understanding of science and technology” by focusing on science across disciplines and nations and by building bridges between society and science.
The Academy facilitates communications among scientists, physicians, students, educators, policy makers, government officials and journalists from around the globe through its interdisciplinary conferences, meetings and diverse electronic and print publications. Academy programs draw upon the foremost experts and the most current information about advances and issues in science and technology to inform policy discussions and actions, to enhance scientific education and to foster the human rights of scientists.
